1. Arrival in Makkah and Preparation for Tawaf
- Rest after arriving at the hotel, following the sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH), and become familiar with the surroundings. After resting sufficiently, head to Masjid al-Haram to perform tawaf and sa’i.
- Take a sunnah bath before leaving for Masjid al-Haram, then perform ablution (wudu);
- It is recommended to enter Masjid al-Haram through the Bani Shaibah Gate, but if this is not possible, you may enter through any gate and make a supplication;
- Step in with the right foot when entering Masjid al-Haram;
- Upon seeing the Kaaba, it is recommended to raise your hands and make a supplication;
- Proceed to the tawaf area calmly and respectfully, avoiding haste. If it’s crowded, be patient. If pushed by others, forgive them and remain conscious that you are in a sacred place and a guest of Allah;
- Ensure that you are in a state of ritual purity, your clothing is clean from impurities, and your awrah is covered.
2. Thawaf
- Tawaf begins from the Black Stone (Hajar Aswad). Upon reaching it, it is recommended to touch, perform istilam, and kiss it if possible, without harming others in the crowd.
- If touching it is not possible, perform istilam by waving your hand toward it and then kiss your hand. If even that is not possible, face the Kaaba, signal with your hand, and kiss it while saying:
Bismillahi, Allahu Akbar
In the name of Allah, Allah is the Greatest
- Tawaf consists of seven rounds, keeping the Kaaba on your left side.
- It is recommended to recite dhikr, supplications, or Quran in a low voice for focus and not disturbing others.
- At the Yemeni Corner, touch it (istilam) if possible; if not, raise your hand without kissing and say:
Bismillahi, Allahu Akbar
In the name of Allah, Allah is the Greatest
- Between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone, it is recommended to recite:
“Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.” (Surah Al-Baqarah [2]:201)
- Male pilgrims are recommended to jog lightly during the first three rounds, and to perform Idtiba' (exposing the right shoulder) during all rounds.
- Avoid touching the opposite gender (non-mahram) to maintain ablution.
- Be patient and do not push others in crowded conditions.
- Tawaf may be performed on the first, second, third, or fourth floors.
- Begin and end tawaf at the line marked by the green lights opposite Hajar Aswad.
- Sick or disabled pilgrims may perform tawaf in a wheelchair or use an electric scooter (available on the mezzanine level).
- Do not touch the Kaaba’s wall, Hijr Ismail, or the Shadharwan (foundation), as doing so invalidates the current round.
- If in doubt about the number of rounds completed, take the lower number and complete until reaching seven.
- After tawaf, pray two rakaats behind Maqam Ibrahim or anywhere in the mosque, then make supplication.
- Supplicate at Multazam (between the Kaaba door and Hajar Aswad), or in line with it if too crowded.
- Drink Zamzam water from the available stations and make supplication.
- Praying in Hijr Ismail is a general sunnah prayer and is not directly related to tawaf. It can be done at any time if conditions allow.
