For pilgrims, performing Hajj fulfills a religious obligation, but it's also a deeply spiritual experience of a lifetime for many. It's seen as a chance to seek God's forgiveness for past sins, to grow closer to God and to walk in the footsteps of prophets.

Hajj Ritual Implementation
On the Day of Tarwiyah, which is the 8th of Dhu al-Hijjah, pilgrims performing Hajj Tamattu' prepare themselves to perform the Hajj pilgrimage by making the intention for ihram of Hajj. They take the miqat from their place of residence, namely the hotels in Makkah, while carrying out various activities.
At the hotel in Makkah
Purify oneself: it is recommended to cleanse the body by bathing and performing ablution, trimming nails, and applying fragrance;
Put on the ihram clothing, followed by performing the sunnah prayer for ihram;
Make the intention for Hajj by reciting:
Meaning:
I respond to Your call, O Allah, to perform Hajj.
Or by saying:
Meaning:
I intend to perform Hajj and enter into ihram for the sake of Allah the Exalted.
After declaring the intention for ihram of Hajj, pilgrims are encouraged to recite the talbiyah;
Depart for Arafah starting at 07:00 WAS until completion, on the 8th of Dhu al-Hijjah, known as the Day of Tarwiyah, boarding the buses patiently according to their group;
Engage in dhikr, reciting the talbiyah during the journey from Makkah to Arafah, along with salawat and prayers with the same wording as recited during the umrah;
Make a supplication upon entering the area of Arafah.
3. In Arafah
Pilgrims arrive in Arafah on the 8th of Dhu al-Hijjah, while wukuf (standing in Arafah), a pillar of Hajj, is performed on the 9th of Dhu al-Hijjah. While waiting for wukuf, pilgrims should engage in remembrance of Allah (dhikr), recitation of the Qur'an, talbiyah, and supplication.
On the 9th of Dhu al-Hijjah, after zawal (midday), wukuf begins, and pilgrims stay in Arafah until Maghrib. During wukuf, pilgrims should do the following:
Listen to the wukuf sermon;
The time for wukuf begins with the adhan for Zohor prayer;
Perform Zohor and Asar in jama’ qasr taqdim (combined and shortened at Zohor time);
Engage in wukuf, followed by zikir and supplications, either individually or in congregation;
Increase remembrance of Allah, talbiyah, Qur'an recitation, interspersed with supplications, striving to draw closer to Allah with humility and devotion;
Use the wukuf moment wisely for good deeds, repentance, purifying the heart, constant remembrance of Allah (zikir), and avoid conversations that lead to showing off (sum’ah and riya’);
Avoid acts that violate the prohibitions of ihram;
It is recommended to face the Qiblah during wukuf, as done by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), from the start of wukuf until sunset, with continuous dhikr and prayer;
Wukuf ends at Maghrib with the call to prayer (adhan);
Pilgrims prepare to depart for Muzdalifah, starting with Maghrib prayer;
Perform Maghrib and Isha’ in jama’ ta’khir qasr (combined and shortened at the time of Isha’) in Muzdalifah for early groups. For later groups, perform jama’ taqdim qasr in the tents of Arafah;
Be confident that the performed wukuf is valid and complete;
Board the buses to Muzdalifah patiently and in order, and during the journey continue with dhikr, talbiyah, and supplication.

4. In Muzdalifah
On the night of the 10th of Dhu al-Hijjah, all pilgrims:
Leave Arafah and head to Muzdalifah to perform mabit (overnight stay);
Recite talbiyah and engage in remembrance of Allah (dhikr) during the journey from Arafah to Muzdalifah;
Remain calm and not in a hurry along the way;
Upon arrival at the mabit location, face the Qiblah. Facing the Qiblah is sunnah;
Continue reciting talbiyah, dhikr, and supplications, striving to draw closer to Allah, as Muzdalifah is among the places where prayers are likely to be answered;
Occupy the mabit location. Most pilgrims stay in open areas enclosed by iron fences. Some are placed in tents in the Mina expansion area (Mina Jadid), located outside the fenced area;
Perform mabit in Muzdalifah, which is wajib (obligatory). The preferred time is from early night until before dawn on the 10th of Dhu al-Hijjah. However, staying even briefly past midnight is allowed. For those arriving after midnight, a brief stop suffices;
Search for and collect pebbles. The organizing body (muassasah) usually provides enough pebbles in cloth bags for throwing at all the jamrah. However, collecting pebbles in Muzdalifah is sunnah. If one does not receive a pebble bag, they may collect 7 pebbles (minimum), 49 (for nafar awal), or 70 (for nafar tsani);
Use the mabit time for deep reflection (muhasabah, tadabbur, tafakkur), glorifying Allah, surrendering to Him, and finding inner clarity and self-awareness to feel His presence and love;
Pilgrims who fall under valid Islamic excuses (udzur syar’i)—such as fear of lost belongings, serious illness, duty-related obligations, or other valid reasons—are allowed not to stay in Muzdalifah and are not required to offer dam (penalty).
5. In Mina
Pilgrims head to Mina after midnight, transported in turns from the mabit location.
Upon arrival in Mina, all pilgrims perform the following activities:
Enter the designated tents and rest while waiting for the scheduled time to perform the jamrah ritual;
Perform the stoning of Jamrah Kubra (Aqabah) on the 10th of Dhu al-Hijjah by throwing seven pebbles. Indonesian pilgrims perform this on the third level, except for those staying in Maktab I to IX, who perform it on the ground floor;
Recite takbir and stop reciting talbiyah after throwing at Jamrah Aqabah;
Say takbir each time a stone is thrown. After stoning, it is sunnah to supplicate with raised hands for an accepted (mabrur) Hajj;
Shave or cut the hair. It is sunnah for men to shave their heads and for women to cut at least three strands of hair. Pilgrims going directly to perform tawaf ifadhah may shave in Makkah;
Tahallul awal: After throwing Jamrah Kubra (Aqabah) and shaving/cutting the hair, pilgrims achieve tahallul awal. They are free from all ihram prohibitions except marital relations and foreplay;
Mabit in Mina is wajib (obligatory). Most pilgrims stay in the Harat Al-Lisan Mina camp. Others stay in the Mina expansion area (Mina Jadid). Staying in Mina Jadid is permissible, and the mabit is valid;
Mabit for two nights (11–12 Dhu al-Hijjah) for those taking nafar awal, or three nights (11–13 Dhu al-Hijjah) for nafar tsani;
Make the most of the mabit in Mina by continuing in spiritual striving (mujahadah), preserving the purified soul, avoiding what Allah has forbidden, obeying His commands, avoiding satanic temptations and lust, ultimately depending solely on Allah;
Throw seven pebbles at each of the three Jamarat (Sughra, Wusta, and Kubra) on the 11th of Dhu al-Hijjah;
Repeat the stoning of all three Jamarat on the 12th. Those who choose nafar awal must leave Mina for Makkah before sunset;
Stoning of the three Jamarat on the 13th for those choosing nafar tsani, then leave Mina for Makkah.
6. Tawaf lfadhah
Tawaf ifadhah is performed after pilgrims return from Mina on the 12th of Dhu al-Hijjah (for those who perform nafar awal) or after the 13th of Dhu al-Hijjah (for those who perform nafar tsani). Upon arrival at the hotel in Makkah, the pilgrims:
Take adequate rest and do not force themselves to immediately perform tawaf ifadhah. According to the majority of scholars, there is no deadline for performing tawaf ifadhah. It can be done at any time as long as the pilgrim is still alive.
Especially for pilgrims still in Mina, it is not advised to perform tawaf ifadhah on the 10th of Dhu al-Hijjah by walking to Makkah and returning to Mina tents due to safety and health risks;
Perform tawaf ifadhah and sa'i (tahallul tsani), without shaving the head afterward. Thus, the pilgrim has achieved tahallul tsani and is completely free from all ihram restrictions.
With the completion of tawaf ifadhah, the series of rituals for Hajj Tamattu' is completed;
Be confident that their Hajj is valid and complete while continuing to pray for its acceptance by Allah SWT.
