During Hajj or Umrah, there are prohibitions that must not be violated. This is intended to show how a servant can be obedient to Allah's commands. Ihram is the state in which one has made the intention to perform the Hajj rituals, during which certain prohibitions must be observed. On the other hand, Tahallul is the state in which it becomes permissible to do what was previously forbidden.

Things Permitted During Ihram
Intentional: Sinful & Subject To Dam (Compensation)
Unintentional/Ignorant: Not Sinful & Not Subject To Dam (Compensation)
- Wearing stitched or sewn clothing
- Covering the head or part of it (for men)
- Covering the face (for women)
- Wearing gloves
- Applying oil on the head and beard, and other areas apart from those growing on the cheeks and forehead
- Using fragrances on the body, clothes, food, or inhaling them into the nose
- Engaging in preliminary acts of intercourse
- Marrying, officiating a marriage, or accepting a marriage representative
Intentional/Unintentional/Ignorant: Sinful & Subject To Dam (Compensation)
- Removing hair or body hair
- Cutting nails
- Uprooting or cutting plants/vegetation in the Haram area
- Hunting or killing animals
